Archie, beloved husband of Marlene Miller and father of three (Hal, Laurel and Wade), was born in Melville, SK, on June 20, 1934, to Valentine and Eleanor Miller, youngest of 12 children. He went to meet his Lord and saviour at the age of 89 years on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
Archie attended Wymer School five miles from Cana. At a young age, he was active on the Miller family farm. He had a love for music and learned how to play the accordion and other instruments from watching his brothers play. At age 18, Archie was hired on the CN Railway. He commenced services as a locomotive fireman on July 10, 1952, in Melville, SK. He was promoted to locomotive engineer on January 16, 1961. Archie retired after 38 years of service at age 55.
Archie is survived by his wife, Marlene, married for 66 years (October 12, 1957); son Wade (Diane) Miller and their children, Brayden, Carson and Ashten; his brother-in-law, Ed Welke; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Valentine and Eleanor (Steffen) Miller; mother-in-law Frieda (Jeske) and father-in-law August Welke; his brothers and sisters, Carol (Jim) Silk, Phillip (Gertie), Betty (James Turner)(Jim Wotherspoon), Kay (Alf) Silk, Jack (Ada) (Bernice), Phyllis (Roy) Sobotin, George (Faye), Rudy (Dorothy), Harold (Bernice) (Terry), Alice (John) Sparks and Charlie (Kay); grandson Jordan Miller; brother- and sister-in-law Martin and Arla Welke; and sister-in-law Marie Welke. Tragedy struck in 1977, and his daughter, Laurel, died in a car accident. Sixteen years later, in 1993, son Hal died in a car accident.
Archie was generous, kind, loving and had a love for music. He enjoyed playing with his brothers, nephews and brother-in-law and with his band, “The Sundowners”; they played for many weddings and dances, but he was not always able to accept dance dates due to commitment call to work the CN. During his retirement, Archie enjoyed time spent hobby farming. They eventually moved into Melville, and in his later years enjoyed time spent fishing and playing cards with his grandchildren and time spent at Crooked Lake.
