Tillie Ungurian (Schramm) passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, SK, following a brave battle with cancer.
Tillie was born on Monday, March 18, 1940, on the family farm at Goodeve, SK, (sec 33, tp 23, rge 9 W2) to Peter and Christine Schramm (Rathgeber). She was the tenth of eleven children.
Tillie received her elementary school education at Schappert School until, in 1953, when her parents and the younger siblings moved to Summerland, BC, due to her dad’s health. She continued her education there and worked at various jobs. Later Tillie moved to Edmonton and married Alex Ungurian on August 16, 1969. She and her husband were both employed at the Swift’s Meat processing plant in Edmonton. Later they moved back to Summerland, where she worked at Sun View Industries installing windows in campers. Alex passed away May 1, 1991. Tillie remained in Summerland until 2003 when she decided to move back to Melville, SK, to be nearer to her sisters Phyllis and Hilda and other family members. Throughout the years, Tillie enjoyed bowling, bingo, crossword puzzles, watching golf, curling and the Blue Jays on television, and attended many family functions.
Tillie was admitted to St. Peter’s Hospital on February 2, 2023, and diagnosed with cancer shortly after. She spent a month there and then was transferred to St. Paul Lutheran Home, residing there until her passing.
Tillie was predeceased by her parents; her in-laws; her husband, Alex; brothers John, Louis, William, Karl and George, as well as Peter in infancy; sisters Katherine Walsh, Phyllis Erbach and Hilda Propp; brothers-in-law Matt Walsh, Alvin Propp and Harold Erbach; sisters-in-law Hilda Schramm, Frieda Schramm, Patricia Schramm and Ellen Schramm. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Mary Karpo; her sister-in-law, Gail Schramm; her Godchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; her close friend, Lil Keyowski; as well as other relatives and friends who will deeply miss her.
Honouring Tillie’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melville or a charity of choice.
