Mothers day tribute

I remember very clearly the day my grandmother died, Mom's mom. We got a call from uncle Allan mentioning that gramma had just passed. My Mom busied herself, as usual with household chores and so on, and did not show any emotion, which was usual for Mom. On the day of the funeral, I remember my grampa saying to me just before the reception, that this was gramma's last lunch. Mom was stoic as usual during the whole service and reception, except for one tiny tear. This was very typical of Mom, she never let emotion rule the day, her steadfast belief that one determines whether they will be happy or not is something one can control. Also her unquestioned belief in the hereafter was unwavering and this obviously helped her to cope with those difficult times. This is the first time I will be without a mother for Mother's Day, I do feel like an orphan, as it was Mom who corrected my behavior, followed up on things she felt I should do, and in other words continued to Mother me. I really miss her. As usual, I have to remind myself a few times a day, how blessed I was to have Mom in my life for sixty-five years.
