Obituary for
Edna Schick
Edna was born on the family farm near Duff on March 29, 1942, to Philip (J.P.) and Colleen (Kiselbach) Schick; she was the eleventh child of fourteen, nine brothers and four sisters. Edna passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017, in Melville at the age of 75 years.
Edna attended Colmer School, high school in Saltcoats and trained as a psychiatric nurse at Valleyview Centre in Moose Jaw. She was blessed to be well suited to this work; it was close to her heart. During her life of service, she had a variety of work experiences.
Edna took pleasure in being physically active and particularly liked track and field and volleyball in high school. She also enjoyed softball for fifteen years, followed by ten years as a runner, taking in many events including three marathons.
A love for travel developed when a year after graduating from nursing, Edna spent fourteen months in Europe. A trip to Australia in 1974 lasted two years, and the return trip spanned Asia overland. She crossed Canada three times and lived in various places, including Yellowknife, NWT. Vancouver was her home for 32 years until her retirement to Duff in 2011.
Edna was predeceased by her parents, Philip (J.P.) and Colleen (Kiselbach) Schick; brothers, Art (Pearl), Ernest, Henry (Ruby), Herbert and Wilfred; sisters, Donaven in infancy and Gerty (Henry) Kohlenberg; brother-in-law, Harold Speidel; nephews Kenneth Schick and Perry Schick and great-nephew Jason Pfligir. She leaves to mourn her passing: brothers Dave (Rose), Fernie (Agnes), Vern (Judy) and Wilson (Audrey); sisters Doreen (Jack) Hahn and Evelyn (Edwin) Stich; and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
