Nellie Louise Jones (Miller)
Nellie Louise Jones, 86, passed away peacefully on Oct. 23, 2013 in Melville at St Paul Lutheran Home, Melville with her children by her side. She was born on Feb. 20, 1927 in Poland to Jacob and Sophia Miller. Nellie had 2 sister and 2 brothers that predeceased her. She attended school in Melville and as a challenge, completed her Grade 12 in 1994 at the age of 67. She started her working career at Kanee’s Dry Goods Store. She then moved on to her true talent, bookkeeping at Walters Garage. She then continued her working career as a bookkeeper and more at Bonick’s garage for over 27 years. Her dog, Drooper, would follow her to work daily. Nellie grew up in Melville where she was a staunch participant, supporter and volunteer for Melville Minor Sports. She encouraged her four children to participate in sports activities at school as well as the Melville minor sports programs.
Nellie married Lally Jones at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in 1951. They had four children:

After Nellie was widowed in 1973, she enjoyed many special relationships in her life. Much joy was shared between her and Charlie Coppin, Ken Smith, and John Stuart. Nellie was an active parishioner of St. Paul`s Lutheran Church at many levels. In addition, she was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lady Trainmen and the Melville bowling and curling clubs. Her volunteer hours were endless, along with providing homes for young Millionaire hockey players as a billet `Mom`. She enjoyed gardening, reading, watching sports, travelling and mostly spending time with her family. She had many words of wisdom for her extended family. One was Live, Love, and Laugh. “Live the day like it was your last, savour every moment of God’s gift to you”: Love-“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (The Golden Rule)” and Laugh: “Laughter is life’s best medicine and if you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?” Three simple words that will be a Legacy with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and beyond. Thanks Nellie!!!!
