Obituary for
John Herman Ulmer
John Herman Ulmer passed way at his home on Saturday, April 28, 2007 at the age of 90 years. John was the eldest son of Jacob and Tillie (nee Markwart) Ulmer. He was raised on the family farm in the Colmer district and attended Colmer School. John farmed until 1947 when he accepted a grain buyer position with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and worked in Windthorst, Cana, Fenwood and Killaly. John was a strong advocate of the co-operative movement having served on the boards of both the Melville co-op and credit union. John retired in 1975 and moved to Melville. In retirement he continued to work, both as a tax preparer and agent for Co-operators Insurance. John always had a positive attitude towards life. His family will miss his favourite piece of advise, “Don’t cross your bridges ‘till you come to them”.
John was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Sophie on June 10, 2003; brothers, William and Ernest and a sister, Tena. He will be missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren consisting of sons Ray (Darlene) of Calgary, AB and Ken (Cathy) of Moose Jaw, SK; grandchildren Michelle Peek-Philpott, Carla (Blaine) Huntley, Sean (Jodie) Ulmer, Brad Ulmer and Sara Ulmer; great-grandchildren Cameron, Brandon, Meaghan, Kennedy, Lauren, Jack, Olivia and Elizabeth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
