Irene Elizabeth Wirth (Gerhardt) of Melville, SK, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the age of 95 years.
Irene was born to Bernhardt Gerhardt and Elizabeth Ellerman on the family farm five miles northwest of Killaly, SK. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Killaly, SK.
Irene married Harold Wirth, who lived across the lake north of her home, on June 8, 1948. Harold and Irene raised their four children, Elaine, Garry, Ryan and Karen on the farm. As all farm wives in that era, Irene always had a huge garden, milked cows, and there was never-ending cooking, baking, preserving and pickling.
Harold and Irene moved to Melville in 1991 because of Harold’s declining health. After Harold’s passing, Irene maintained a garden and hundreds of backyard flowers until the age of 92 years. In June of 2020, Irene moved to Caleb Village, and December 8, 2022, was her last move, to the Preeceville nursing home.
Irene was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1996; grandson Christopher Wirth in 1981; grandson Keith Wirth in 2008; and daughter Elaine in 2019.
Left to celebrate her life: her daughter, Karen (Bill) Konlup and their children, Steven (Jacqui) Konlup, Cole, Piper and Miller, Jason (Samantha) Konlup, Maddyn, Joey and Elliette; son Ryan (Debbie) Wirth and their children, Kimberly (Peter) Presbitero, Matthew (Meagan) Warner, Elias, Zachary Warner, Noah Warner and Jaiden Presbitero, and Jeffery Wirth (Jorlene); son Garry (Glenda) Wirth and their children, Michelle (Randy) Kaeding, Dallas, Madison (Evan), Abbey and Regan, Tamara (John) Aston, Riley and Brody, Trevor (Amy) Wirth, Alyssa, Nixon, Tori and Raina, Amy (Justin) Getzinger, Harper and Cooper; son-in-law Gordon Shand and his children, Neil Shand and Heather Cook; special niece Sandra (Mervin) Schlamp; sister-in-law Lorraine Schutz; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
