Joanne Marie Kirwan, age 70, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2023, after a long-fought battle with dementia. She was born July 29, 1952, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, to Frank and Marie Olfert.

Joanne married the love of her life, Joe Kirwan, on May 29, 1971, in Swift Current. Together they had two children, Steven and Shauna. In March of 1984, Joe relocated from Swift Current to Melville, followed by the rest of the family in July of 1984. Joanne worked for many years at the Melville Housing Authority, where she retired as manager in 2010.

Joanne was very involved in the community, loving the time she spent on the Melville Arts Council and Melville Heritage Museum boards. She truly loved her commitments, spending many hours making sure everything was perfect and ensuring others around her were inspired by what they were doing.

Joanne loved camping and spending time with all of her family; family cookouts and gatherings were always welcomed at the campground. She had many hobbies - she loved to do crafts and paint ornaments and figurines that can still be seen displayed in her many flowerbeds. Joe got Joanne golfing as they retired, and Joanne picked the sport up right away, loving the time she spent with Joe on the course. We hear they may even have had some healthy competition on some of the courses, which we are sure Joanne would not let Joe live down.

Joanne was a very loving wife, mother, grandma and aunt to everyone in her family. She took great pride in being the rock of the family, always there to support Joe, Steven and Shauna in whatever they were aspiring to do. Joanne was a loving grandma to Justin, Taylor, Hunter, Ayden and Brooklyn and was always involved in their lives and interests, spending many hours supporting and cherishing every moment she could. She spent much time watching football, hockey and dance, always there with a loving smile and a great big hug for her grandchildren.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Joe Kirwan; her son, Steven (Melissa) Kirwan; her daughter, Shauna (Jacky) Reiger; grandchildren Justin and Ayden Reiger, and Taylor and Brooklyn Kirwan. Joanne is also survived by her sister, Dianne Trytten, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Joanne was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Marie Olfert; her brother, Dennis Olfert; and her grandson, Hunter Reiger.
