Crystal Jean Schaan (45) of Whitewood, SK, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at the Whitewood Community Health Centre. Her courageous and stubborn battle with cancer is over, but her undefeated spirit now rests in peace - without any damn socks.

Crystal is survived by her beloved husband, Brent Schaan; her children, James, Joshua, Michael and Nikita Schaan; her parents, Bill and Carol Cline; her brothers, Cameron (Robin) Cline, Trevor (Aimee) Cline and Tyler (Lola) Cline; and eight nieces and nephews.

Crystal’s spunk and no-nonsense attitude were immediately evident when she was born on February 6, 1977, in Saskatoon, SK. She developed her well-known, boisterous voice shortly after. Raised on the Cline family farm near Zelma, she graduated from McClellan School in Young in 1995 and received her diploma in Practical Theology from Faith Alive Bible College in 1997. Crystal and Brent were married on July 25, 1998, and started their life together in Yorkton. Their first child was born during their time in Whitehorse, Yukon. They soon moved back to Saskatchewan and welcomed three more children, raising their family in Whitewood.

Family connections were everything to Crystal. She and her family loved to visit the farm, and you’d often find Crystal and Carol at the Scrabble board within hours of arriving. Cooking, baking, games, laughter and kooky conversations were common in the Cline home. Suddenly, somehow, something would happen that would often result in Bill chasing Crystal around the house or yard. Community was also precious to Crystal. She was a member of the Whitewood School Community Council for ten years, eight as chairperson. She enjoyed playing horseshoes, curling and countless other community events.

Crystal’s lovable and caring demeanour gave her a keen sense of what was going on around her. Her mischievous side often decided what to do with that insight. Crystal enjoyed social gatherings with friends and family and was often the life of the party, even in her final weeks at the care home. Crystal’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her caregivers, nurses and doctors, who went above and beyond. We’re certain Crystal added more than her fair share of stories to your cache of fond memories.
