Obituary for
Ronald "Ron" McDonald
Ron McDonald of Melville, beloved husband of Elizabeth McDonald, passed away suddenly the afternoon of Thursday, December 29, 2022, at the age of 85 years, doing what he loved at home.
Ron was born October 19, 1937, in Kamsack, SK, the youngest son to James and Irene (Radysh) McDonald. He lived his entire life in Saskatchewan. Ron's railroading career started in 1954, at age 17. After 37 years of railroading, he then thoroughly enjoyed 30 years of retirement. On March 9, 1959, Ron married Elizabeth Evacheski; the couple celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2022.
Ron was a man of many passions and interests, sharing with those he loved. He was an avid life-long trophy hunter, he enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors. Ron was an antique collector and dealer, a ‘ham radio’ operator, a member of the Elks, and was a Mason and a Shriner.
Ron and Liz loved to travel and spent many winters as snowbirds in the southern United States, finding a second home in Yuma, Arizona, where they loved to dance, make new friends and enjoy happy-hour gatherings. Ron especially loved spending time with his three grandsons, his extended family and the “Melville gang”.
Ron leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Elizabeth; his daughter, Lorece, and son-in-law Dennis Broshko; his son, Doug, and daughter-in-law Barbara McDonald; along with his three grandsons, Spencer Broshko, Mitchell McDonald and Cameron McDonald.
