Kenneth Kitsch went to his eternal home on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville, SK, at the age of 88 years.
Ken was born to Jacob and Susan (Cimala) Kitsch on September 14, 1934, at Rokeby, SK. The family moved to Melville, where he was educated, found employment and continued to make it his home until his passing. Ken worked for the CNR and retired in 1990. He enjoyed his retirement and morning coffee with the guys.
On November 20, 1954, Ken married Margaret Sass. They were blessed with three children, Robert, Cheryl and Donald. Ken was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather(papa), great-grandfather and uncle. He loved children, and they sure loved him. Ken was an avid hunter and fisherman. If he wasn’t home, you would find him at the cabin at Crooked Lake boating or fishing.
In his younger years, Ken was a member of the Melville City Band, where he played trombone. He had an active role on the school board, vice-president of the Melville Music Festival and a position on the Crooked Lake Committee. Ken belonged to the Melville Fish and Game, Saskatchewan Wildlife, NFA and Melville Gun Range. Most important to him was Zion Lutheran Church, where he was an elder for as long as his health let him. He directed the choir for 40 years.
Ken’s pride, with which he had so much fun, was the collection and building of his model railway track, complete with replicated buildings representing Melville, including the old Waverley Hotel, water tower and, once upon a time, KFC. Not only were little children thrilled to hear the engine whistle blow, it made all of us smile.
Ken was predeceased by his wife, Mugs; parents Jacob and Susan Kitsch; and a brother, Elmer. He leaves to cherish his memory: Robert (Eleanor) Kitsch of Smeaton, SK; Cheryl (Allan) Glowa of Melville; Donald (Marcy) Kitsch of Houston, BC; six grandchildren, Chellan (John) Barsi, Conrad Glowa, Dustin (Meghan) Glowa, Vanessa (Jake) Surrey, Chantel Kitsch and Kalin Kitsch; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Barsi, Ian Barsi, Riley Bowman and Cooper Surrey; brothers Glenn (Marlene) Kitsch and Gordon (Donna) Kitsch; Godsons Darren and David Kitsch and Goddaughter Margo Smith; and beloved nephews, nieces, great-nephews and -nieces, Aunt Hilda Pelzer, cousins, in-laws and friends.
