It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Olga Turberfield on Friday, September 2, 2022, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, SK.

Olga was born August 19, 1944, to Emil and Pearl Kowalchuk in Westbend, SK. After graduating from high school, she went off to school for her LPN nursing. Olga met her husband Mel, and they went on to raise their kids in Melville. Olga worked at St. Peter’s Hospital for many years before retiring. She took great pride in her work and treated her patients like they were family.

Olga spent her time gardening and cooking for her family. She always hosted family gatherings. Olga worked just as hard at home as she did at work. She was everyone’s rock when they needed someone.

Olga had a heart of gold and would do anything to help someone in need. She started her cancer battle in 2013. She was diagnosed with lung cancer and had most of her left lung removed. After treatment, it seemed she beat the illness, but in 2019, they found it had moved to her brain. Olga moved in with her daughter Erin who wanted to care for her mom through her journey. Against all odds, Olga went through two brain surgeries, removal of a tumour on the side of her head and numerous treatments. She stayed strong through her entire battle right up until the end. Her last days were spent surrounded by family at St. Peter’s Hospital, where she peacefully passed away holding the hands of her children. It brought Olga so much comfort to spend her last days at the place that meant so much to her. Her work colleagues and especially Dr. Eshawash were what gave her the strength to fight her battle as long as she did. Olga was irreplaceable to anyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Olga was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Pearl Kowalchuk; husband Mel Turberfield; son Robbie Turberfield; grandson Cameron Eichelberg; brother Sid Kowalchuk; and brother-in-law Richard Goller. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Corrine Eichelberg, Erin (Derek) Stacheruk and Ian (Colette) Turberfield; her grandchildren, Brendan, Chase and Caitlen Turberfield, Chelsey and Connor Eichelberg, Santana Galli and Madison, Jordyn and Dray Stacheruk; great-grandkids Nicola and Victoria Eichelberg, Noah and Wyatt Galli, Ariella and Kacy Turberfield, Kezia and Natalia Turberfield and Hayli Turberfield; Olga’s siblings, Anne Goller, Bill Kowalchuk, John Kowalchuk, Pauline Adams and Alex Kowalchuk; as well as numerous other family members.
