Helen was born on July 21, 1933, southwest of Neudorf, SK, to Karolina (nee Unterschutz) and Peter Tressel. She grew up on the farm along with her older sisters, Rosina and Hanna. Zion Lutheran Church, where Helen was baptized, confirmed and married, was an important part of the Tressel family life.

Helen often walked the few miles into Neudorf to attend school. She worked helping to care for children before moving to Regina to eventually work at Sears. Helen met her “bestman”, Oscar, as a bridesmaid at her cousin’s wedding, and they were married on June 21, 1957. They followed their dreams and moved to the Schick family farm in 1959, sharing their passion with their children, Arlene born in 1960 and Bradley in 1967. Helen lived a busy farm life, milking cows, caring for pigs, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats, gardening, cooking delicious meals, sewing clothes, repairing most anything and lending an extra hand to Oscar. She enjoyed her flowers, reading and creating crafts. Later, her grandchildren, Taylor, Colton and Brennan, were the joy of her life, teaching them to bake, make perogies and butcher chickens! There were always treats in the freezer for them to sneak. Helen was always there for her family, ready to lend a listening ear.

Helen’s health declined, and eventually she was cared for at Morris Lodge in Bangor and the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy. Her life’s journey ended on Friday, August 19, 2022, with family at her side.

Helen leaves to mourn and celebrate her life, daughter Arlene Thickett (Walter); son Bradley (Lorie); grandchildren Taylor (Alanna), Colton (Annie), Brennan (Cortni) and Darrell (Page) Thickett; great-grandchildren Cohen and Hadley Schick and Kinsley and Lennon Thickett; and numerous extended family and friends.
