Valerie Alma Bittner of Churchbridge, SK, formerly of Melville, SK, went to be with her Lord in heaven on Monday, August 15, 2022.
Valerie was born November 27, 1940, at Fleming, SK, to Edwin and Alma (Jones) Parker. She completed her education in Melville, then moved to Regina and took a typist course. It was there she met Fred Bittner. They were married in 1960 in Melville, where she lived until just before her passing. Valerie and Fred were blessed with six children.
Mom worked many jobs, including Co-op Creamery, Kwik Shopper and Dairy Queen. She found her true vocation employed as a nurses’ aid for over 20 years at St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville.
Mom had many interests, which included quilting, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, gardening, canning, reading, puzzles and cards. She enjoyed many summers at Crooked Lake (Moose Bay) since she was young. She loved fishing with us and her brothers. Baking at Christmas time and sharing with her kids was always something Mom enjoyed. Her favourite pie was rhubarb custard, her mom’s recipe.
Mom loved to eat! She was happy when her daughters would bring her baking. She cherished visits with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In later years, Mom enjoyed her computer where she made many friends on online games.
Valerie was predeceased by her husband, Fred; her son, Gary; parents Edwin and Alma Parker; and brothers Dale and Kent Parker. She is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Bob) Page; Karen (Doug) Hildebrandt; Dana Seib; Carla (Mike) Debnam; son Brent (Lisa) Bittner; grandchildren Michael (Karen) Page, Ian Page, Kristin (Michael) Quartel, Kara (Tyler) Wiebe, Kelly (Keegan) Rempel, Joshua (Brittany) Seib, Angella Seib, Keenan Handfield, Katie (Dusty) Eskra, Sara (Mitchell) Sauser and Justin (Amy) Rodman; and her 18 great-grandchildren.
YOU MEANT SO MUCH
You meant so much to all of us,
You were special and that's no lie,
You brightened up the darkest day,
And the cloudiest sky.
Your smile alone warmed hearts,
Your laugh was like music to hear,
I would give absolutely anything,
To have you well and standing near.
Not a second passes,
When you're not on our minds,
Your love we will never forget,
The hurt will ease in time.
Many tears I have seen and cried,
They have all poured out like rain,
I know that you are happy now,
And no longer in any pain.
