Rose Novak (nee Hickie) passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville, on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the age of 98 years.

Rose was born on a farm by Grayson, SK, on March 4, 1922, to the late John and Rosalie (nee Bear) Hickie. Rose attended Flegel School by Grayson, where she completed Grade 8.

August 1944 is when Rose married the love of her life, George Novak, and they resided in Waldron, SK. Rose worked at the Waldron schools as a caretaker and also helped her husband, George, at the Waldron post office. They ended up having four beautiful children, Sandra, Agnes, Robert and Sheila. In 1987 Rose and George moved to Melville to make life a little easier on them.

Rose was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Agnes, Betty and Ann; and her brothers, John, Mike, George, Alois and Joe. She is survived by her sister, Mary Exner, of Regina, SK.

Rose’s love for her family will be remembered by her children, Sandra (Bill) Moncur; Agnes (Ernest) Kormos and their children, Rene Kormos (Bruce Butler), Jennifer (Matty) Stelmachowich and their daughter, Tori; Robert (Diane) Novack and their son, Matthew (Kristen) Novack and their children, Beckham, Kiefer and Harlow; and Sheila (Gary) Beeton.

Even with her passing, Rose will still be with us. All you have to do is look at nature and all the beautiful birds around us as she did many times herself.

I remember a few years ago I asked grandma if she would like me to make the cabbage rolls for Christmas. Her response at the age of 95 was “what do you think I can’t make cabbage rolls”.......I sure will miss you cabbage rolls, perogies and strudel.😘

My dearest grandma. You were always there for me. When I was a little girl I loved our walks in the bushes while you pointed out all of the meadow flowers and song birds. You showed me how to garden and I now have my very own. As I grew my love for you became stronger. Even though you are no longer in our life we will miss your giggle, you smile, you running your fingers through my hair. I hope you will join me in my back yard to help me keep my garden growing and to watch the hummingbirds, finches and chickadees. Love you grandma and I will miss you so very much. From Your granddaughter Rene
