Elizabeth (Betsy) was born on July 11, 1926, on a farm in the Scrip district of Saskatchewan, the third youngest of eight children (six girls and two boys) to Margaret and Robert Marshall. Her father strongly believed in education so Betsy went to school in Scrip for the first eight grades and then took Grades 9 and 10 by correspondence. She completed Grade 11 in Kelvington, living with Stella Ingram, and Grade12 in Wadena.

Betsy came to Whitewood in May 1946 to work in the drug store for Mr. Gillis as a pharmacist apprentice and became Betty. These plans changed when she married Jim Robertson on October 11, 1948. She continued to work in the drug store and then briefly in the post office until Roberta was born October 5, 1955. Betty “stayed” at home with Roberta until she started to work part time in the Credit Union in 1969. Since she “stayed” at home, she was available to leave to help out anyone whether it was a family illness or for volunteer activities. Betty was the only mom on the block who could make candy floss “like magic”. When a position became available in the post office, she started to work part time there and became postmaster in 1984 when Ainsley Nicol retired. She retired from this position in 1990.

Over the years, Betty was involved with the United Church Women, Eastern Star, Order of Royal Purple and the Harmony Club and took active positions in these clubs. She enjoyed being with family and attended as many family events as was possible. She last attended her brother Billy’s 90th birthday celebration in Quill Lake in June.

Betty enjoyed playing cards, reading, knitting, embroidery, baking and sewing. She also enjoyed travel and took trips to various places such as: Alaska (cruise), Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Caribbean (cruise), Scotland, England, Ireland, Austria, Italy, and many locations in Canada and the United States, which she especially enjoyed when visiting family with other family members.

Elizabeth (Betty) Robertson passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at the Whitewood Community Health Centre at the age of 93 years.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Jim; her mother and father, Margaret and Rob; her in-laws, Martha and Leslie; plus her sisters, Mysie, Marjorie and Jen and brother Jimmy. She is survived by her daughter, Roberta; her sisters, Berta and Jean; her brother, Billy; as well as MANY nieces and nephews.
