Obituary for Martha Strandlund

Martha Elizabeth Strandlund (Fowlie) was the first child born to Peter and Ina Fowlie at Stoughton, SK. She later moved with family to Broadview where she attended school. It was at dances in the Broadview area that Martha met Arnol Strandlund. Martha and Arnol were married February 9, 1946, in Victoria, BC. They returned to Saskatchewan in 1946 so they could take over the Strandlund family farm. Two sons were born to this union: Dwight (1946) and Larry (1955).
Martha and Arnol owned a race horse together and enjoyed traveling to various race tracks. Martha and Arnol were inseparable and did everything together. In 1963 they purchased the Moulding farm and operated a mixed farm until 1977 when they moved into Broadview. During their time on the farm, Martha also worked at the restaurant in the Broadview Hotel, where she greatly enjoyed her many interactions with community members. Martha and Arnol also enjoyed many summers at Crooked Lake while Arnol worked in park security and maintenance. They enjoyed dancing and socializing, and together they went on many hunting and fishing trips with family and friends. You could always count on Martha to feed you a full meal at any time of day if you stopped in to visit. She was a warm, down-to-earth lady with a great sense of humour and a zest for life.
Martha passed away August 10, 2019, at the Echo Valley Lodge in Fort Qu’Appelle at the age of 93 years.
Martha was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arnol; her parents, Peter and Ina; her brothers, Cecil, Bruce and Allan; and her sisters-in-law, Esther, Dora and Sophie. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Isabelle Baron; her two sons, Dwight (Elaine) Strandlund of Hinton, AB, and Larry (Shannon) Strandlund of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK; six grandchildren, Candice (Glenn), Corey (Brenda), Shannon (Torrey), Jacquelyn (Kelly), Nicole (Brett) and Brayden (Paige); twenty-four great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
