Mike Gettle, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2019, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, SK, with family by his side.

Mike was born on September 9, 1928, in Markinch, SK, the son of Jake and Jane Gettle. He grew up on a farm in the Wishart area where he met his wife, Marion Richardson, whom he married on March 1, 1958. In 1963 they moved to a farm located between Punnichy and Lestock, SK. During that time, Mike and Marion raised five children, two boys and three girls.

Mike had a variety of careers which included a train porter, cat operator and bus driver. However, his true passion in life came from the 55 years he spent farming with his family. Over the years, Mike and Marion enjoyed travelling, playing cards and, most importantly, spending time with family and friends.

In March 1994, Mike and family lost their beloved wife and mother, Marion. They cherished the 35 years they spent together as a married couple and the family they raised together. In 2006 Mike retired from the farm and made the move to Ituna, SK. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, gardening, making perogies, playing three-spot and crib, watching The Price Is Right and many other activities. Mike will always be remembered wearing his blue cargo outfit, a cap on his head and a pack of cigarettes in his front pocket.

Mike leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his life: his children, daughter Maraline Senft (Marvin Shevela) and grandchildren Devon (Kerrie) Senft, Steven (Melissa) Senft, Colin Senft and Mitchell (Tera) Senft; son Michael (Annette) Gettle and grandchildren Christie (Garth) Dube, Jason Gettle, Michael Gettle and Allan Gettle (Cassie Scrimbit); daughter Marina (Jerry) Keep and grandchildren Justin Keep (Amanda Kerr) and Bryana (Devin) Sapara; daughter Yvonne (Robert) Keiser; son Robert Gettle; 16 great-grandchildren; sister and brother Margie and Walter; sister-in-law Donna Gettle; and brother-in-law Lorne (Dianne) Richardson. He was predeceased by his parents Jake Gettle and Jane (Gettle) Grand, his wife and many siblings, relatives and friends.
