It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Brenda Wynne Zelko announces her passing on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville. She was 64 years old.

Born May 21, 1955, in Eatonia, Brenda was the first child of Bill and Leona Leeks. She started elementary school in Calgary, later moving to Edmonton, where she completed high school at Jasper Place. Brenda attended the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, where she received her degree in Dietary and became a Dietetic Technician. She did her practicum in the Yorkton hospital. Brenda put her career on hold to raise her family, and after moving several times, they settled in Melville and soon called it home. When she was ready to return to the work force, she began working at Rail City Industries, a place she loved; she worked there for 30 years.

Brenda had many hobbies such as bowling, ceramics, music, knitting and art, but above all, she valued spending time with her family and friends.

Brenda was one of the happiest people we knew; she had a big heart and was a very giving person. She was always someone you could count on to help out, whether you needed an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on, or encouragement. She accepted people for who they were and never judged someone for being unique. She was truly a beautiful soul and was loved by all.

Brenda was predeceased by her dad, William “Bill” Leeks and her mother-in-law, Margarete Zelko. She will be remembered by her mother, Leona Leeks; her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Zelko; her children, Shondell (Shawn), Vicki (Brent) and Christopher (Rachel); her grandchildren, Kylee, Mackenzee, Jaager, Nathan and Piper; her brother, Rick (Linda); her sister, Donna (Doug); in-laws Irma (Joe), Jimmy (Sheri), Ed (Shirley), Ottcar (Dorris) and Linda (Dennis); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends and family.

Brenda was my oldest cousin, yet still so young! She was always so good to me and I don’t think I ever saw her not smiling and/or laughing. My Parents were Brenda’s Gods Parents ....... I guess that made her my God Sister ! I was not able to attend the funeral to say goodbye in person so Brenda my dear cousin, Goodbye you beautiful human. I will think of you when we watch your Riders play this season. ( even though we cheer for another team) 😉 Farewell my dear Cousin, you will be missed. ❤️

Our deepest sympathies to all the family. Back in the early 1980’s we lived a few doors down from Brenda and her family. She was the most loving person, especially with the children. I have a fond memory of Brenda making my two girls each a cabbage patch doll because they didn’t have one. My youngest daughter had to wear glasses and when her cabbage patch doll arrived it also had glasses! I will never forget her kindness. Thoughts and prayers are with you. I shared an office with Brenda at Rail City Industries. She was more than a co-worker, she was a good friend. I was so very sorry to hear of her passing. We had so much fun together and was always there to help the clients and provide advice and listen to anyone who wanted to share with her. We worked on events together and they were so successful in part because of her hard work. I will miss Brenda terribly and wish to offer my condolences to Bob and her family. Brenda was a wonderful individual who contributed to the community and dedicated to all who know her. Carol Wiens, Regina, SK

I worked at RCI for about 4.5 years. She was so helpful, kind, smart, hardworking and always had a smile. She helped me learn my job, was so patient...I asked a million questions. She loved the clients, her co-workers but she loved her family more. Her grandkids lit up her life. Prayers for all her family and friends. We have lost a beautiful soul.

I have many wonderful memories of Brenda growing up, we were like sisters. Memories of singing in with the summit music group, camping with friends at Wabamum, years in Luther League. I will cherish all my memories of such a loving caring woman. As we all say we wish we had more time 😢. You will be in my heart always. There is a beautiful angel watching over us. Rest well my dear friend, love sent to all the family ❤️💔❤️💔 Karen Frost. Edmonton Ab
