Obituary for Hilda Propp (Schramm)

Hilda Propp (Schramm)
Hilda Propp (nee Schramm) passed away at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, SK, on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at the age of 82 years, with her family at her side.

Hilda was born on September 10, 1935, on the family farm near Goodeve to Peter and Christine (nee Rathgeber) Schramm. She attended Schappert School and completed grade nine. Hilda moved to Melville and started employment at City Café. During this time, she met Alvin, the love of her life. On June 27, 1954, they were united in marriage at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorkton, SK. They were blessed with two sons; Douglas was born April 7, 1955, and Gordon, November 26, 1956.

Throughout her life, Hilda worked at St. Peter’s Hospital as a nurse’s aide, Sears, Fields, Robinsons and Mil’s Fashions as a sales clerk. She enjoyed working with the public.

Over the years, Hilda belonged to Melville Golf Club, Army and Navy Club and the Melville Bowling League. She greatly enjoyed playing bingo and cards, solving crossword puzzles, reading and socializing with family and friends.

Hilda was admitted to St. Peter’s Hospital in April 2018, where she was later diagnosed with bone cancer. On May 18, 2018, she was moved to the palliative care unit at St. Paul Lutheran Home. She was a survivor of cancer five times prior to this final battle.

Hilda was outgoing, fun loving and had a friendly personality; she could strike up a conversation with anyone. She always attended the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s functions, which included baptisms, confirmations, graduations, weddings, birthdays, ballet recitals, music festival recitals, bowling tournaments and baseball games. She was a caring person and will be sadly missed by everyone.

Hilda was predeceased by her loving husband, Alvin; her son, Douglas; her parents, Peter and Christine; in-laws Alexander and Elsie (Threinen) Propp; brothers John, Louis, William, Karl and Peter in infancy; sisters Katherine Walsh and Phyllis Erbach; sisters and brothers-in-law Hilda Schramm, Frieda Schramm, Anita Richter, Matt Walsh, Alec Ungurian and Harold Erbach.

Hilda leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Gordon (Sheila) Propp; daughter-in-law Deb Propp (Rene Suwala); grandchildren Rhonda (Jason) Phillipoff, Leslie (Jeff) Bernath, Amber (Jason Sass) Propp, Jamie (Amy) Propp, Mitchell Propp, Todd (Katelyn Sherwood) Propp and Trisha Dobson; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Justin Phillipoff, Parker and Paisley Propp, Ava Propp, Jayda, Carter and Claire Propp; sisters Mary Karpo and Tillie Ungarian; brother George Schramm; sisters and brothers-in-law Ellen Schramm, Gail Schramm, Patricia Schramm, Elaine (Wes) Olson, Rick Propp and Lawrence (Jennifer) Richter; godchildren Donna Mucha and Carrie Olson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Honoring Hilda’s wishes there will be no funeral service. A private interment will be held at a later date in the Melville City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 55 St. Clair Avenue West, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario, M4V 2Y7.
