Obituary for Ronald John Walkington

Ronald John Walkington was born in Balcarres, SK, to Jack and Vera (nee Aldous) Walkington, the first of five children. He was raised on the farm near Finnie, SK, and spent his school years in that small hamlet, which now has the #10 highway running over it. As a small boy, Ron played with toy trucks, loaders and tractors; as an older boy, that turned to the real thing. Ron’s dad always said “there is nothing Ron can’t drive!”

Ron spent his early years working with his family in their trucking and farming operation. He married, had two children and carried on driving taxi cab and backhoe, spending the last years driving semi for Gee Bee construction out of Kipling, SK. Ron retired on January 26, 2016, due to ill health and moved back to Melville on May 16, 2017.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Vera; his grandparents, Fred and Mabel Walkington and Bert and Kay Aldous; his uncles and aunts, Herb Walkington, Nora and Douglas Aldous and Bob and Elsie Aldous; and his cousin, Stan Aldous. He is survived by his son, Dan; his daughter, Angela; his grandchildren; his brother, Rob (Lucille); his sisters, Donna (Milton) Wurts, Beverley (Greg) Bennett and Betty (Alex) Molnar; his nieces and nephews; his aunt, Francis Walkington; and numerous cousins.

A graveside family service will be held at a later date. Donations in Ron’s memory may be made to Pheasant Forks Cemetery, c/o Sydna Stilborn, Box 862, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, S0G 1S0 or The Saul Cohen Family Resource Centre, 200 Heritage Drive, Melville, SK,S0A 2P0
