Obituary for Edna Christina Assman (Miller)

Edna Christina Assman (Miller)
Edna Christina was born August 4, 1925 to George and Christina (nee Bender) Miller in the Grayson area. Edna had eight other siblings. During her youth, she attended the Wymer School and worked on the family farm until she married Wilfred Assman in November 1950. They settled on the Assman family farm and in 1957 Edna gave birth to Grant. Shortly after Grant finished University, Edna and Wilfred sold the farm and moved to Melville. While on the farm, when she lived in Melville and up to her last days, Edna’s door was always open to friends and family for coffee, card games and gatherings. While they lived on the farm, Edna was an active member of the Grayson Curling Club. She was also known to put a few pennies in the slot machines. In 1999, Wilfred passed away, just short of their 49th wedding anniversary. In 2012 Edna moved into the St. Paul’s Lutheran Home. Even while in the home she continued to enjoy many visits from her friends and family, often seen in the hospital cafeteria having a “coffee party”. When not socializing with friends and family, Edna participated in almost all activities in the home, often joking with the staff. Even when facing physical difficulties in her later years, Edna was always positive and “did the best she could”. She was always grateful for everything anyone did for her.

Edna will be greatly missed by her son Grant and his wife Heather. She also leaves behind her greatest pride and joy, her two granddaughters, Tiffany and Erin as well as her step granddaughter Madeline. She is survived by her beloved brother Walter Miller and her sister-in-law Margaret Assman, nephews and nieces and countless friends, many of whom Edna considered family.
