Obituary for Margarete Zelko (Zorn)

Margarete Zelko (Zorn)
Margarete was born to Philip and Carolina Zorn on Monday, August 16, 1920 in Sitaurovka, Austria. She passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville at the age of 95 years.

Margarete Zelko was one of the happiest people we know. She had a zest for life, and she loved to socialize with others. She enjoyed gardening and would not go a year without planting potatoes. She loved to talk, sing and dance and always enjoyed entertaining people who dropped in to visit. Margarete has left us with many happy memories and lots of sayings like: "I'm going home to put my happy clothes on", "if I should live so long I will.........", "eat for the hunger that comes". She will be greatly missed by her family and friends!

Margarete is survived by: daughter Irma (Joe) Materi, sons Bob (Brenda) Zelko and Jim (Sheri) Zelko, stepchildren Ed (Shirley) Zelko and their children Yancy and Wanda,Ottcar (Doris) Zelko and their children Darcy, Shane and Carrie, Linda (Dennis) Alberts and their children Jade and Bart, Eleanor Hawley and her children Dawn and Jason, grandchildren Mark, Ricky and Wade Materi, and Robin Zelko, great-grandchild Chevrina Materi, nieces Adelheid (Joachim), Renate (Uli), Lydia (Don) and Lil, nephew Arnold (Siegried) and cousin Art (Valerie) Sanders.

Margarete was predeceased by her first husband Johann Wagner, second husband Steve Zelko, son Helmut Wagner, parents Philip and Carolina Zorn, brothers Philip, Heinrich and Peter, sisters Cristina, Katherine, Ellenor, Maria, Elizabeth and Carolina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
