Obituary for Alvin Richard Nickell

Alvin Nickell of Balcarres and formerly of Lemberg, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the age of 77 years.

Alvin Richard was born September 8, 1935 on the family farm in the Hill Farm district to Frederick and Olga Nickell. Alvin received his elementary schooling at Maple Green School then continued at the Lemberg High School. After his schooling, he remained on the farm to work with his parents and was also a hired hand on the farms of his uncles. In his younger years, Alvin served his community as a member of the Lemberg Fire Brigade and on the council of Trinity Lutheran Church. His parents retired in 1969 at which time Alvin moved with them into Lemberg, but continued farming from town until his retirement in the mid-1990s. Because of health issues in later years, Alvin was unable to be involved in physical activities, so he spent his spare time doing his favourite things - enjoying the company of coffee row and roaming the countryside taking in the nature around him and keeping in tune with what was happening in the farming community. Alvin moved to the Balcarres Extended Care Home in May of 2006, where he remained until his passing.

Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Olga and Fred Nickell, his brother Paul and brother-in-law Paul Pfeifer. He is survived by: his sister, Judy Pfeifer and her children Sandra, Holly (Larry), and Grant; his sister-in-law Barbara Nickell and her children Susan (Lorne) and David (Raquel); his great nieces and nephews Kailey, Dana, and Jeffrey Lowe, Mackenzie and Isaac Nickell; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
