Obituary for Emil Lloyd Horrocks

Emil Horrocks of the Melville district passed away Friday, September 7, 2018, at the age of 81 years.
Emil Lloyd was born Thursday, April 29, 1937, at Estevan, SK, to Lloyd and Fern (nee Butler) Horrocks. He was the second oldest of 11 children and attended Valley View School in Estevan.

After completing school, Emil worked on a farm then went to work in the oil patch in southern Saskatchewan for quite a while, which served him well when he moved to Alberta in 1967 and later became a sales representative for Smith Tools in the Whitecourt area. Because he had worked with most of the “tool pushers” and rig managers and they all respected him for his integrity and knowledge of oil well drilling, he was able to become the first rep to break the million dollar sales threshold.

Emil was very well liked by anyone who knew him and is remembered as being a bit of a rascal sometimes, though he would insist that he was more of an angel. Family and friends have many fond memories, and Emil will always be remembered for his sense of humour!

Emil was predeceased by his son David Brian, who died suddenly in July of 2017. He is survived by his daughter Sheryl Lynn (Ken Kusk); grandson Henry Brian Gattinger and his wife Chris Tina; granddaughter CarrieLynn and her husband Cory Rotvik; great-grandchildren CaytLynn and Cole Rotvik and Mathew, Ashley, Adena and Jacob Gattinger; his long-time companion Joanne Potyondi; siblings Ken, Ralph, Larry, Howard and Elsie and their families; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
