Obituary for Oscar Schick

Oscar Schick
Oscar was born on January 22, 1932, on the farm west of Killaly, SK, to Katherine (nee Lang) and John A. Schick. He was the youngest of 11 siblings and 7 step-siblings.

Oscar was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Killaly. He attended Prairie School and worked on the farm. As a young man, he moved to Moose Jaw and worked for a moving company. He met Helen Tressel at the wedding of Ernie and Heddy Schick, and they were married on June 21, 1957. They lived in Regina until moving to the family farm in 1959.

Oscar and Helen enjoyed farm life. Oscar was mechanically-inclined, did all his own repairs and was always ready to help out neighbours and friends with welding or repairing implements. Arlene could always count on him when it came to looking after her vehicles. Oscar loved animals, and you would often see him around the farm with a cat perched on his shoulder. He was especially honoured to receive the Century Farm Award in 2014.

Ball and hockey were Oscar’s favourite sports. He spent many hours taking Brad to his hockey games and thoroughly enjoyed watching his three grandsons play.

Oscar’s health declined, and he moved to St. Paul Lutheran Home in the fall of 2014 where he passed on Monday, August 20, 2018.
