Obituary for Minnie Schramm

Minnie Schramm
Wilhelmine “Minnie” Katherine Schramm was born on September 16, 1926, on the family farm near Neudorf, SK, to Jacob and Elizabeth (nee Hollinger) Issel. She was the third of eight children and the first daughter. Minnie was a hard worker even in those days, as she was entrusted with helping to raise her siblings and contributing to the family farm. She lived on the family farm until she met and married Louie Schramm on January 4, 1944, and moved with him to the family farm at Goodeve, SK. Louie and Minnie enjoyed many years on the family farm where they were blessed with three children, Verna (late Zenon) Luby in 1946, Larry (Dorothy) Schramm in 1953 and Mark Schramm in 1962, who passed away in infancy.

Minnie was a strong-willed and determined lady with a kind and caring heart. She was an excellent cook and an even better baker and was able to whip up a meal in no time, usually consisting of homemade perogies and cabbage rolls, for anyone who stopped by to visit; no visitor left her home hungry. She was also very crafty; knitting and quilting were many of her favourite pastimes. Minnie loved to socialize and volunteered in many community clubs in Goodeve and Melville. She enjoyed visiting with neighbours and playing cards until the wee hours of the night, liked playing bingo, was a shark at word search puzzles and loved gardening; no weeds were ever left behind. Minnie also enjoyed taking trips and traveling with family, visiting destinations like British Columbia, Las Vegas, the Black Hills and many campgrounds around the province.

Minnie and Louie retired to Melville, SK, in 1982 when Larry married Dorothy and they took over the family farm. They enjoyed retirement by going out to the farm and helping and giving guidance.

Minnie enjoyed five grandchildren, Jason (Terri) Luby, Lisa (Vaughn) Irlbeck, Lori Schramm (Tom), Curtis Schramm and Ashley Schramm (Brett), two great-grandchildren Grace and Hanna Irlbeck and step-great-grandchildren Kyle and Harrison. She loved having the grandchildren visit and was very proud of their achievements.

Louie passed away in 1986, and Minnie found herself as a widow at a very young age; it was hard on her, but she continued to persevere. She lived by herself until 2009, when dementia made it necessary for her to move to St. Paul Lutheran Home, where she resided until her passing.

Minnie was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Elizabeth, husband Louie, son Mark, brothers Carl and Phillip Issel, brother-in-law Fred Cameron and son-in-law Zenon. Minnie is survived by her two children, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her sisters, Mary (Ernie) Hollinger, Emily Cameron, Joyce (Len) Schienbein, Margaret (Glen) Armbruster and Betty Ann (Fred) Hawman, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
