Honorary pallbearers were all whose lives August touched. Interment took place in the Lemberg Town Cemetery with Harvey Krieger, Brad Krieger, Neil Krieger, Darwin Waldbauer, Dwayne Waldbauer and Brent Markwart serving as pallbearers. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Lemberg.

August Waldbauer was born on September 6, 1924, on his parents’ farm four miles north and one mile west of Killaly. August was the fifth child of eight born to Fred and Caroline (Markwart) Waldbauer. Caroline was born in the Neudorf district, and Fred was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada at one and a half years old. Fred passed away in 1977, and Caroline passed away in 1979.

August attended the Wallacetown School from 1931 to 1940 and then farmed for two years. In 1942, he became employed by Henry Besler in Melville at an implement and fuel dealership until 1945.

On October 25, 1949, the scene of a double wedding took place at Christ Lutheran Church, Neudorf. August married Edna Viola Krieger of Neudorf and Edna’s sister, Doreen, married Erwin Markwart.

August started his own business, Waldbauer’s Electric, in Lemberg in 1946. In 1955, the business was expanded to include plumbing and heating, which served the businesses and residences in the Lemberg – Neudorf – Abernethy areas. The business also provided sales and service of television sets and appliances. Following 63 years of service, August retired; during this time, all three of his sons followed in his footsteps and provided him with many years of service. His son, Kevin, carries on his legacy. August and the family would like to share that, through their years in business, they consider the people not just customers but also friends.

August was active in several volunteer groups and councils in the community over the past years:
1954-1963 Trinity Lutheran Church Council, Lemberg; 1955-1963 Lemberg School Council; 1960-1980 Lemberg Fire Brigade; 1967-1994 Lemberg Lions Club; 1973-1991 Lemberg Town Council.

August was a hard-working man but managed to find the time for personal activity with family and friends. He, with his wife Edna, enjoyed travelling. They were fortunate to have travelled to several warm locations in the winter including Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean, including a cruise. They spent time travelling west in the summer, camping in their earlier years and then, later in life, loved the cabin life at Crooked Lake. August enjoyed golfing, fishing and boating. He even tried cross-country skiing, but his favourite winter pastime was watching his grandsons play hockey and his granddaughters in dance, sporting activities and church events. The family also remembers his love of dancing, which took August and Edna to several events in the area. The last few years, he was able to spend precious time with his six great-grandchildren, who really lit up his life when they were around!

August spent his last one and a half years in St. Paul Lutheran Home. He participated regularly in the group activities and enjoyed visits with staff, residents, family, friends and the pastor. The family would like to thank the staffs of St. Paul Lutheran Home and St. Peter’s Hospital for their care and making him comfortable.

August was predeceased by his beloved wife, Edna; his parents; his son Cameron; brothers Ernest (Sophie), Gustauf (Jean) and Wilfred (Helen); sisters Mary (Joe Yeadon) and Helen (Bill Schofer); and brothers-in-law Harry Parachoniak and Jim Chapman.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his son Brian (Valerie) Waldbauer and their children, Dallas, Jeffery (Shawna and their daughters Mikaela and Madison) and Clayton; his daughter Sherry Krahenbil (Kris Profit) and her children, Austin (Rayanne and their daughter Wynnslet) and Kelsey Beaver (James); his son Kevin (Gladys) and his children, Krista (and her son Carver and daughter Kyrah), Alesha Moffatt (Nick and their son Aaron), and Trisha; his siblings, Herb (Elsie) Waldbauer and Christine Parachoniak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.
