Obituary for Lorne Scheirer

Lorne Wilfred Scheirer was born on February 16, 1930, at the family farm, the son of Samuel and Helena (Scheer) Scheirer. He was called to his heavenly Father’s arms Sunday, November 19, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville.

Lorne was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbour and friend. He was a farmer, an inventor, a builder (make something from nothing), a fixer, a cleaner, a babysitter and many more things. He wore every one of those titles with dignity and pride but none more than babysitting.
Even in his hospital bed, Lorne could hear the little ones coming down the hall long before any of us did. When they got to the door and walked in, he would just light up. Lorne will be missed, but we know he is now babysitting the little ones that have gone before us and the ones we never got to meet. He trained us well so we will carry on and be okay. He left us with this instruction "No bragging and no sad songs at the funeral"!

Lorne is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elsine (Mebs); children David (Sharen) Scheirer, Danette (Mark) Domres and Dan (Arlene) Scheirer; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; siblings Doris Dohms, Darleen Tillman and Donald, Raymond and Eldon Scheirer; and many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lorne was predeceased by his children Susan and Dale, parents, Samuel and Helena; siblings Edwin and Norman Scheirer and Gladys Schmuland.

A celebration of Lorne’s life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lemberg, Friday, November 24, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Lorne’s memory may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
