Obituary for Dorothy Susanna Hack (Hollinger)

Dorothy Susanna Hack (Hollinger)
Dorothy was born on February 15, 1943, to Elsa and Valentine Hollinger. She grew up on the family farm near Fenwood, SK. As the second eldest daughter in the family of eleven children, she helped raise her younger siblings. Dorothy completed grade eight at Koenigsberg School and proceeded to work as a caregiver/housekeeper for three local families.

At the age of 22, Dorothy met the love of her life, Vern Hack. They had a short courtship and were married on November 5, 1965. The couple was blessed with six children: Janet, Leonard, Leeann, Lorrie and twins, Colleen and Corinne. Together, Dorothy and Vern farmed and raised a happy, healthy family whom she cherished. They loved to entertain and always had a house full of people. Dorothy loved to garden, and the produce was plentiful every year. Her green thumb could work magic on any plant inside or outside their home. Dorothy always loved the challenge of a puzzle and would spend many hours putting them together.

When Dorothy and Vern sold their family farm and moved to Melville in 1997, she had more time for her favourite hobbies. Christmas was a special time of year, as she looked forward to shopping for presents. Dorothy enjoyed Christmas baking; everyone loved her poppy seed roll, homemade bread and cookies. There was always a present for everyone under the beautifully decorated tree.

Dorothy loved to spend many hours with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They would look forward to her homemade treats, loving talks and hugs on their visits to Grandma and Grandpa’s house.

Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Elsa (Platz) and Valentine Hollinger; her brothers, Richard, Gordon and Alfred; one sister, Emma; son-in-law Robert; mother and father-in-law Mathias and Katherine (Temple) Hack; brothers-in-law Philip, Otto, Joe, Alfred, Albert, Emil and Herman; sisters-in-law Elisabeth, Katherine, Betty, Christine and Dora; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband of almost 52 years, Vern; her children, Janet (Perry) Yelle of Melville and their children Shawn and Megan; Leonard (Donna) Hack of Yorkton and their children Tyler and Brandon; Leeann (Grant) Hitchens of Lemberg and their children Adam, Melanie and Daniel; Lorrie (Wally) McKay of Melville and their children Elijah, Noah and Elisabeth; Colleen (Michael) Hitchens of Birmingham and their children Roy (Destiny Egyed), Rebecca, Rose and Richard; Corinne Lesperance (Jody Beckett) of Fort Qu’Appelle and her children Robby and Serina; two great-grandsons, Kruz and Jace; brothers Edward (Shirley), Clifford, David (Sadie)and Gilbert (Debbie); sisters Elfrieda (Mike) Potoroka and Alice (Wesley) Rathgeber; brother-in-law Ferdinand (Doreen) Hack; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Honorary pallbearers consist of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers: Shawn Yelle, Adam Hitchens, Roy Hitchens, Daniel Hitchens, Richard Hitchens and Noah McKay.
