Obituary for Vivian Mary Bird

Vivian Mary (nee Canart) was born at Elkhorn, Manitoba on October 9, 1938, daughter of John and Mary Canart. She passed away peacefully at 1:50 a.m. on January 6, 2017 at the age of 78 years.

Vivian is survived by her life partner and best friend, Bob Sapsford; her brother Bob Canart and his wife Nadia; her sons and daughters-in-law Randall Bird, Cheryl Gilfix-Bird, Gregory and Nadine Bird and her daughter Lorene Tinordi; Bob’s son and daughter-in-law Terry and Rhonda Sapsford and daughter Shirley Sapsford (Stephen); her grandchildren Jennifer Shah (Hiten), David Bird (Tracey), Elaine and Sophia Bird, Mathew, Jarred, Natalie and Jacob Tinordi, Christian and Isabella Sapsford and her great-grandchild Jackson Shah. Vivian will also be remembered by many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and many loving friends.

Vivian was raised on the farm in the Woodville district near Elkhorn. After completing business school courses, she left the Elkhorn area to live, work and raise her family in Calgary and Lethbridge until she retired from Sears. Vivian and Bob moved to Round Lake, Saskatchewan and renovated their cottage at Bird’s Point, turning it into a year-round home. They were active in the Bird’s Point community until being forced to move to Stockholm due to the damage caused by the second Round Lake flood, which occurred in 2013. Vivian and Bob took up residence in Stockholm at the Seniors’ apartment complex and continued to play cards and socialize with their many friends in the Stockholm, Esterhazy, Tantallon and Round Lake communities.

Our families would like to express our sincere appreciation and thanks to those who visited and assisted our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. A special thanks to Dr. Nel, the nurses and the staff of St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy, Saskatchewan for their compassionate care.

At Vivan’s request, there will be no formal service. Interment will take place at the Elkhorn Cemetery at a later date.
