Obituary for
Randy Edwin Browatzke
Randy was born on April 15, 1951, in Winnipeg, MB. His parents were Ed and Elsie Browatzke. He was raised on the family farm outside of Kipling until they decided to buy a farm outside of Whitewood.
While on the farm by Kipling, Randy attended a country school. Once they moved to the farm by Whitewood, he attended school in town. During his school years, Randy was part of the school band, where he played saxophone, and was very active in school sports.
After graduating high school, Randy decided to go to SIAST in Saskatoon to become a plumber/gas fitter. He worked with Adolf Gatin until he was a journeyman and then started his own business. In May of 1981, Randy started working in Rocanville with the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan as a journeyman plumber/gas fitter in surface maintenance, where he remained until his retirement in 2016.
Randy married Darlene Benna on August 1, 1981. They shared many happy years together curling, golfing, camping, and spending time at their cabin at Round Lake with friends and family. In 1987 their son, Brett, was born, and in 1989 their family was completed with the addition of daughter, Kelsey.
Randy was very community-minded. He was one of the founding members of the Kinsmen Club of Whitewood. Randy then joined the Whitewood Elks and was very active in planning events for the club. He took his turn holding office as the Exalted Ruler, as well as many other positions. Randy was also a member of the Whitewood Legion and was active on the curling and golf course committees.
In the winter, Randy was an avid curler. He competed in many bonspiels at several different levels. He had many teammates, which included different friends and family. Randy attended the Saskatchewan Southern Provincials in Assiniboia in the early 1980s with teammates Greg Gessner, Brian Bartlem and Brian Stevenson. He also skipped a Legion Provincial Mixed Championship team with Darlene as his third. Together Darlene and Randy attended many bonspiels as a skip/third team, and as soon as his children could throw a rock, they joined.
Randy was also a very dedicated golfer. Many weekends in his life were spent traveling the countryside to different golf tournaments. It was a given, if you were going to be a part of his life, golf would be a part of yours. Because of this, his wife and children developed into fantastic players as well.
Another love Randy had was for music. He was blessed to be part of a musical family, including his children and niece Amanda. He never missed an opportunity to sit and listen to them play guitar and sing. He would sing along and enjoy every minute.
Randy is survived by his wife Darlene, children Brett (Michelle) and Kelsey (Jared), sister Sandra, mother Elsie, mother-in-law Melina Benna, sisters-in-law Dianne (David) Merkel and family, Debbie (John) Schenstead and family, Delilah (Garnet) Schmitz and family, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Edwin and stepfather Ansley Dew.
Randy was such a generous, kind, outgoing individual and will be missed incredibly by his family, friends and community.
