Obituary for Edward William Niebergall

Edward William Niebergall
Edward William Niebergall was born on the family farm southeast of Neudorf. He was the second youngest son of the family of 11children. Ed was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and attended school in Neudorf. He worked on the family farm, starting as a young boy until he joined the army.

Ed served in the Canadian Army in World War II from July 10, 1942 to February 26, 1946 in Canada, Kiska and Europe. After he was discharged from the army, he set up his own farmyard one-half mile east of his parents’ place.

On May 26, 1949, Ed was united in marriage to Rosina Tressel, and they raised three children on the farm. He raised cattle and grain and enjoyed watching the new calves each year. Ed started farming with horses, then machinery, and continued to farm until Dennis took over, but helped as much as he could, even running the combine at harvest when he was in his early 90s. Ed enjoyed playing ball, curling, visiting with family and friends, being with his grandchildren, playing board games, picking wild berries, and gardening, especially growing potatoes.

The Evangelical Church at Neudorf was a very important part of his life. He enjoyed listening to Rosina and their friend, Hazel Armbruster, play the organ and piano together at services. After he and Rosina moved into their new house in Neudorf in 1979, they did some travelling in Canada and the United States.

On July, 28, 2009, after 60 years of marriage, Rosina passed away. In December of 2013, Ed went to live in the care home in Esterhazy, and in spring of 2014, he moved into St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, where he resided until he passed.

Ed was predeceased by his wife Rosina; parents Karl and Katherine (Lowenberg); stepmother Molly Herman; sisters Caroline, Elizabeth (Frank) Hauser, Clara (Edward) Schindell, Flora (Louie) Hauser, Martha (Arthur) Amacher, Elma (Doug) Mitchell and Eva; brothers Adam (Marge) Niebergall, Albert (Atheline) Niebergall and Arnold Niebergall; stepbrother Percy Herman; stepsister Lillian Cooke and sister-in-law Hanna Tressel. Ed leaves to mourn his passing: his children, Kathy (Mervin) Ward, Dennis (Lisa Tingley) Niebergall, Laura (Walter) Hauser; grandchildren Rob Ward, Tammy Ward (Kevin Banman), Caitlyn (Kirk) Botterill, Sarah (Ryan) Gerard, Matthew Hauser, Ashley (TJ) Karwandy, Alison Tingley (Casper Hoffman); great-grandchildren Jacob, Rylie, Connor, Liam, Shayle; stepsister Clare Anderson; sisters-in-law Loggie Niebergall and Helen (Oscar) Schick, and many nephews, nieces and friends.
