Obituary for
Eva Anna Domoslai (Kondor)
Eva Domoslai (Kondor) slipped quietly into eternal rest on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Regina General Hospital. Eva was born on June 11, 1936 in the old Hungarian city of Szombathely, the second oldest of four girls, to Joe and Anna (Szakacs) Kondor. Eva grew up surviving the tumultuous years of war in Hungary, first under German occupation and then finally in its liberation by the Russians. As a young woman, Eva was witness to Hungary’s violent revolution against its Communist oppressor, and under the cover of darkness and without her parents’ consent, Eva and her younger sister Gabriella fled to the safety of Austria’s borders. Once there, they and thousands of other Hungarians were processed into refugee camps. Eva and Gabi made their way to Canada and took up residence in Kenora, Ontario. They found employment and friendship with Erma Wong, who eventually would become Eva’s sister−in−law. Erma introduced Eva to Andrew Domoslai of Whitewood, Saskatchewan, and the seeds of love were sewn. This would lead to a family of seven sons and close to 57 years of mutual devotion and love. Eva and Andy were married on November 15, 1958. They settled on Andrew’s farm in the Burrows area where they adjusted to the hardships of farm life. Eva had seven children; Joe, Chris, Ken, Bill, Harvey, Roy and Peter.
With an old country work ethic, ingenuity, and a beautiful gentle spirit, Eva was able to keep the full house well fed, smooth running, and happy. Eva was always up to a challenge, and as her house emptied of children, she decided to get her driver’s license. She took a job with the Whitewood Petro Can, first as a cook’s helper, then as the head cook, all the while keeping the family farm running. In 1995, Andy and Eva left the farm and bought a house in Whitewood where they quietly enjoyed retirement and the amenities of town. Eva continued to work part time with the Petro Can, and as a full-time mother and grandmother to her slowly growing brood. She always had a pot ready and could whip up a delicious home-cooked meal in a moment. Eva was a prolific reader throughout her life, enjoyed gardening and adding to her expansive salt and pepper shaker collection.
Eva will be sorely missed by her remaining family: beloved husband Andrew; loving children, Joe of Winnipeg, MB, Chris of Whitewood, SK, Ken (Kim) of Moose Jaw, SK, Bill (Liz) of Whitewood, SK, Harvey (Lisa) of Saskatoon, SK, Roy of Saskatoon, SK and Peter (Judy) of Calgary, AB. She is also survived by her doting grandchildren: Natasha, Lauri, Kenton, Kyla, Ryan, Kayla, Amy, Wyatt and Abigail; her great-grandchildren Sonja and Brooklyn; her faithful sisters, Gabriella of Hamilton, ON and Mary-Anne of Hungary; brothers-in-law Gus of Whitewood, SK; Frank of California, Emile of Vancouver, BC and Albert of Vancouver, BC; sister-in-law Rose of Whitewood, SK, as well as many nieces and nephews.
