Obituary for Helen Margaret Reinson (Smith)

Helen Margaret Reinson (Smith)
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Margaret Reinson (nee Smith) announces her passing at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, SK on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the great age of 90.

Helen was born on her father’s farm north and east of Birmingham on October 17, 1924. Her ability to train cats to pull a cardboard wagon, play ball for the Dawn and Success Schools and help out farming were all great loves of her life. She belonged to the Red Cross during WWII and sent many a “care package” overseas.

She married Martin, her partner for 61 years, on November 10, 1947. Together they farmed the original Reinson homestead until 1998 when they moved into Melville. Bowling, dancing and going for coffee now were their main activities. Still cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays and the odd Millionaires hockey game provided much joy in her life. By far her favourite activity was playing cards. Magically beating all generations consistently was not unheard of, no matter whose rules you were playing by. She enjoyed travelling to Europe and throughout Canada to wherever their son was stationed or grandchildren lived.

Helen was dearly loved for her coffee, donuts and apple pie. You never left hungry and heaven forbid if you went by and never stopped in.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Charles and Ruth (nee Runquist) Smith, her husband Martin and her brother Lloyd Smith. She is survived by her son Wayne (Linda) of Melville; granddaughter Wendy and great-grandson Mitchell Kerr of Banff, AB, great-grandson Greggory (Janelle) Reinson and great-great-grandson Bentley Reinson of Claresholm AB; granddaughter Jennifer (Ben), great-grandsons Jack and James and great-granddaughter Ella Margaret Painter of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Having touched so many lives, Helen will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. While she may be gone, she is forever loved and never forgotten. She may not have heard you or remembered your name, but you were always loved.
