Obituary for Elsie Helena Assman (Miller)

Elsie Assman, age 93 years of Melville, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital, Melville.

Elsie was one of nine children born to George and Christina (nee Bender) Miller on June 22, 1922 on the family farm in the Grayson district. She attended Wymer School in her youth.

Elsie married the love of her life, Carl Assman, in May of 1948. They farmed in the Grayson area and had one daughter, Charlotte. In 1964 they moved into the village of Grayson. Elsie and Carl became very involved in curling, and Elsie was always ready to help out in all the various community functions. She was most happy surrounded by family and friends. Carl passed away at the age of 55, and Elsie continued to live in Grayson. She loved to play cards, bingo and went on various bus tours. Approximately two years ago, she moved to Heritage House in Melville.

Elsie was a remarkable woman. She led by example, was very kindhearted and generous. Her words were wise, her laughter was warm, and her presence always comforting.

Elsie will always be remembered by her loving daughter, Charlotte Edmunds, sister Edna Assman, brother Walter Miller, sister-in-law Margaret Assman, all her nieces and nephews and her many friends.

Elsie was predeceased by her parents, her husband Carl and many of her siblings and in-laws.
