Obituary for Irene Lorna Newman (Voechting)

Irene Lorna Newman, nee Voechting, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Irene was born and raised at Tribune, Saskatchewan. After high school graduation she began psychiatric nurse training at the Weyburn Hospital and subsequently went on to complete Normal School in Regina. She taught in rural schools until her marriage. She and her husband, Ed, settled at Whitewood where they farmed for thirty years.

Irene volunteered in the community, notably with the Whitewood Hospital Auxiliary, becoming vice-president in 1979. She displayed talent for sewing and baking, especially appreciated for her cinnamon buns! Most of all, Irene is loved and remembered by family, friends and neighbours for her gentle humour and her kind, thoughtful ways.

Irene is survived by her children Karen (Don) Aird, Sherine Stevens, Glyn (Joy) Newman; grandchildren Jasmin (Ryan) ; Gena; four great grandchildren; sister Georgina McAdam, brother Vern ( Bunny) Voechting; sister-in-law Nora Allen; eight nephews, eight nieces, their spouses and families.
She was predeceased by her husband Ed; son-in-law John Stevens; parents Gerhardt and Eva Voechting; mother-in-law Otillie (August) Newman; brother Harold ( Mable, Margaret) Voechting, sister Gerda (Art) Broker; brothers-in-law Bob McKenzie, Pete McAdam, Rudolph Newman, Edgar Newman; sisters-in-law Hedwig (Henry) Biberdorf, Hertha (Norman) Sangster and Betty Hughes. She was also predeceased by four nephews and one niece.
