Obituary for
Mathilda Margaretha Eichelberg (Tank)
Mathilda passed away suddenly in the presence of our Lord and Saviour in the early morning of Friday, May 17, 2013. To meet her in heaven was John, her husband, who had predeceased her on June 19, 1984. Tillie was born in Melville May 31, 1923, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (nee Stuats) Tank. Tillie grew up on the farm at Neudorf and received her elementary education there. She was united in marriage to John Eichelberg December 2, 1942 at Neudorf. The marriage was performed by Pastor Wilf Sauder. Besides her husband John, Tillie was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, Irvin, Harry, Roland and Oscar; three sisters Lillian Wendell, Amanda Fehler and Rose Schmidt and a son-in-law, Barry Burgess. She leaves to treasure her memory: one son Glen Eichelberg of Victoria, BC; two daughters Shirley (Jim) Cartlidge and Sharon Burgess both of Regina; one remaining sister Violet Herman of Yorkton; a sister-in-law, Janice Tank of Melville; as well as nieces, nephews and many more distant relatives and friends.
Tillie spent her entire married life on the farm located three and a half miles from Melville. She was independent all of her life and after the death of her husband as well. She loved her flowers and garden and took great pride in a well-kept yard. She loved the peace and tranquility of the farm and the singing of the birds in spring. She saw the beauty of nature in every season. Never far from her side was her beloved dog, Cleo. Until several years ago, Tillie was active in church and helped with many coffee parties and funeral luncheons. Her faith in God was unwavering, and her bible was always close to her and well read. Tillie was a friendly, cheerful person. Her unselfishness, generosity, kindness and friendship will be missed by many.
