Obituary for Philip Henry Issel

Philip Issel of Fenwood passed away at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville on June 11, 2012 at the age of 92 years. He was born August 11, 1919 in Fenwood to Philip and Apolona (nee Golly) Issel. Philip moved to the farm with his parents when he was eight years of age. He worked hard on the farm despite the handicap to his left leg caused by polio at the age of eleven years. In his teenage years he liked to go fishing. He played the guitar, sang in the church choir and loved to read every chance he got. Philip was an active member of the Sask Wheat Pool Committee, the Co-op board of directors, the Saskatchewan Farmers’ Union and the Fenwood and Melville Lutheran Churches.In 1954, Philip met Lillian Hollinger and they were married on July 4, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fenwood; this marriage was blessed with four children. Philip enjoyed farm life and was operating the farm equipment in the fields until the age of 86 years. He will be sadly missed.Philip was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Appolona (nee Eckes (Golly) Issel; his siblings Frank Issel, Katherine Hack, Elizabeth McCall (Berton); two half-brothers, Joe (Margaret) Golly and Steve (Christine) Golly and his in-laws: Philipina (Clarence) Wilkie, Alvin Hamp and Dorothy Hollinger. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 55 years, Lillian (nee Hollinger); two daughters and two sons, Caroline (Donald) Skorobohach of Goodeve, Milton (Suzann) Issel of Hubbard, Valerie (Ron) Crandlemire of Melville and Winston (Sheri) Issel of Fenwood; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harold Hack of Melville; Lillian’s family, Margaret Hamp of Radisson, Les (Marion) Hollinger of Saskatoon, Charles (Audrey) Hollinger of Melville, Wally Hollinger of Yorkton, Clarence (Marlene) Hollinger of Edmonton and Art (Valerie) Hollinger of Carnduff.
