Obituary for
Lucy Hedwig Issel (Schmidt)
Lucy Hedwig Issel (nee Schmidt) of Neudorf passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at the age of 80 years.Lucy was born on her parents farm at Neudorf. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church on January 17, 1932 by Pastor Sterzer and confirmed on April 14, 1946 by Pastor Eugene Buehler. Lucy attended Baber School and lived on the farm with her parents until her father passed away from tuberculosis when she was fifteen years old. At this time Lucy found work in Lemberg at the butcher shop and in private homes. Later she worked at the Neudorf hospital. On November 1, 1953 Lucy married Philip Issel at Zion Lutheran Church. She joined Philip at his parents’ farm where they farmed for 48 years and raised their four daughters.Lucy was happiest when she was busy. Farm work included milking cows, hauling bales, picking stumps and stones, hauling grain, cutting grass, gardening, sewing, baking bread and buns, and cooking. There was always lots of good food. Lucy moved off the farm in April of 2004. At her house in town she had stations in every room. One room had a quilt on the go, cross stitch with a lamp and magnifying glass was on the table, a puzzle in another bedroom. The knitting bag, Sudoku and crossword books were beside her rocking chair; her hands were never idle.Lucy was predeceased by her husband, Philip Issel; her parents, Joseph and Rosina (nee Adolph) Schmidt; her granddaughter, Tanya Booth; her son-in-law, Darcy Parisian; a nephew, Barry Schmidt; and brothers-in-law Carl Issel and Louie Schramm. She leaves to mourn her passing: her daughter Glenda and Garry Wirth of Neudorf and their children Michelle and Randy Kaeding (Dallas, Madison, Abbey, and Regan), Tamara and John Aston (Riley and Brody), Trevor and Amy Wirth (Alyssa, Nixon, Tori, and Raina) and Amy and Justin Getzinger; daughter Lorna Issel of Regina and her daughter Amber and Eric Magnusson (Aiden, Avery, and Jade); daughter Wendy and Murray Chatfield of Arborfield and their daughters Shelby, Patty and Kaley; daughter Penny Parisian and her children Rebecca, Catlin, Scott, Cordell, and Keira; her brother, Arthur and Frieda Schmidt; her sisters-in-law Lucy Issel of Yorkton, Minnie Schramm of Melville, Marie and Ernie Hollinger of Melfort, Emily and Fred Cameron of Regina, Joyce and Len Schienbein of Calgary, Margaret and Glen Armbruster of Victoria, and Betty Ann and Fred Hawman of Regina; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
