Elfrieda Yanke (Steffen)
Elfrieda Yanke passed of Melville passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Elfrieda was born December 11, 1907 to John and Maria (nee Wirth) Steffen at their homestead near Melville. She was baptized and confirmed as a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Melville. On June 28, 1931, Elfrieda was united in marriage to Christian Yanke at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed at Springside until 1942 when they moved to Melville and started a construction business (Yanke Construction).Elfrieda was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church as well as the Lutheran Church Women. She was a long standing member of the Orange Benevolent Society which supported the Indian Head Orphanage. Her commitment and support to the society spanned over a 55 year period. Elfrieda enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time at their cottage at Crooked Lake.At the age of 101, Elfrieda passed away at her home on June 30, 2009 with both daughters at her side. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Christian in 1989, a son Mervin in 1958, brothers Pete, William, Ernie, Alfred, Johnnie and sisters Evelyn and Clara. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters Gerri (Edwin) Miller of Melville and Rosemarie (Morris) Rosolowski of Winnipeg; seven grandchildren Bev (Doug) Romaniuk of St. Albert, David (Tammie) Miller of Portage la Prairie, Gregg (Tracey Vivier) Miller of Edmonton, Murray (Nadine) Miller of Okotoks, Chris (Christan) Rosolowski of San Diego, Craig and Karen Rosolowski of Winnipeg; six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Evan Miller of Portage la Prairie, Michael and Cole Romaniuk of St. Albert, and Logan and Ethan Miller of Okotoks.
